Rules for Sketches I Write

I see a lot of sketch comedy. I see trends and patterns, and sometimes they create an effect on how I write and generate ideas. Here are some of my personal rules (maybe more like guidelines).

1. No death

There was a period a few years ago, where every sketch show I went to had multiple murder and death scenes. It got so tiresome.

2. No guns.

I’m not a gun person in real life at all. I know it’s an easy way to heighten the stakes, but I’m not a fan.

3. No James Bond

It’s not just James Bond. There are a ton of characters that have been parodied to death. Just James Bond is tops of that list. And if you’re doing James Bond, it’s more than just having a random British accent.
